Jonathan Aspey, Principal Dentist, BDS Edinburgh (1990) GDC No. 65329

(Available Monday to Friday)

Jonathan qualified from Edinburgh University in 1990. Born in the Wirral area of Merseyside, he spent most of his school years in Inverurie after his father began a career with Shell oil company and the family moved to Aberdeenshire.

Jonathan has continued to take an interest in furthering his knowledge of dentistry since qualifying. This commitment has been reflected in his undertaking a two year part time postgraduate course in restorative dentistry at a centre of excellence in Manchester, led by the internationally renowned Dr Paul Tipton.

Jonathan also attended a one year course in Implant Restoration at the Edinburgh Dental Specialists Training Centre, the programme being led by world implant authority Dr Crawford Bain and renown specialist Dr Kevin Lochhead. He prides himself on treating patients “as if they are members of my own family”, with the care and attention that would achieve the very best results every time.

Together with his wife Moyra, he took over the ownership of the practice at Hilton Street in 1998. Their vision was to create an environment that retained the professionalism of a dental practice whilst also providing a relaxed and calm atmosphere.  An ambition they have been told they have achieved by many patients and visitors.

Away from work Jonathan loves cycling and rugby – mostly watching these sports now, rather than playing them. He attempts to play guitar and spends numerous hours in the garden, which needs a lot of maintenance!

After a few years as a dental nurse, Amanda-Jane wanted a new challenge and went on to study at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School, where she qualified as a Dental Hygienist.

She particularly enjoys management of anxious/nervous patients, promoting good oral health and working as part of a team with a common aim of providing a world class customer experience to their patients.

When Amanda-Jane joined the practice in September 2017 she was pleased to share our vision of providing quality dental care with a strong emphasis on prevention. Although there have been many changes in the profession, prevention of dental disease remains of key importance. Evidence is now overwhelming that good oral health also contributes to good general health.

Academically, Amanda-Jane keeps up to date with the latest developments in the dental world through Continuing Professional Development and attending courses.

When Amanda-Jane is not working, she is mum to her two wonderful boys. Her hobbies and interests include keeping fit by running and hill walking, singing, fine dining and baking.
