Facial Rejuvenation from Hilton Dental
Practice FAQs
What is Botulinum?
Botulinum is a safe, natural and purified protein produced
by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical
treatment that can temporarily reduce lines and wrinkles.
The most common areas treated are crow’s feet and forehead
frown lines.
How does Botulinum work?
Lines and wrinkles form over time as the result of muscle activity
and so the theory behind the treatment is to reduce this
muscle activity. During the treatment, very small amounts
of Botulinum are administered using an extra fine needle
directly into the facial muscles, causing them to relax.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal Fillers are made from a highly purified form of the
naturally occurring substance hyaluronic acid. It's a pure
crystal clear gel injected in tiny amounts with a fine needle.
How do Dermal Fillers work?
Dermal Fillers remain in the treated area for some months following
treatment, giving your skin natural looking volume and contours.
It creates a fresh natural and more youthful appearance – rather
like moisturiser in an injection form. The most common areas
treated are the lips, and lines around the mouth and nose.
How safe are these treatments?
Botulinum and Dermal Fillers have been extensively tested and
all research has concluded that they are safe and effective.
They should only be applied by medical professionals such
as dentists. Mrs Aspey is fully trained in the use of both
of these products. She is a member of the Association of
Facial Aesthetics, ensuring that her training has been of
the highest standard and providing her with professional
back up.
How long does treatment take?
Depending upon the number of areas that need treating, treatments
take about 20 to 30 minutes and are usually painless. No
recovery time is needed so you will be able to carry on with
your daily
routine afterwards with only a few precautions to take post-treatment.
Mrs Aspey will explain the precautions you need to take
afterwards.
Are there any side-effects?
There can sometimes be redness, swelling and bruising which
is normal and will subside.
When will I see results?
Within two to three days of Botulinum treatment, there is
a marked improvement in frown lines and wrinkles, however
they
can continue to improve for up to a month and your skin appears
smoother. With dermal fillers the effects can be seen instantly.
How long do results last?
The results from Botulinum treatment usually last for about
three to five months. Dermal Filler results are long lasting – up
to six months in lips and about a year in other areas. Both
Botulinum and Dermal Fillers are broken down by the body
and so regular treatment is required to maintain a wrinkle
free
look. However, if you do not continue with regular treatment
then your lines and wrinkles will eventually come back to
the level they were prior to your treatment.
Does treatment hurt?
Since the needle is so fine, treatment is usually painless.
Any discomfort is minimal. Prior to a Botulinum injection,
we may numb the area with a local anaesthetic cream. Dermal
Fillers may require an injection, similar to when you have
a dental restoration, if you are having treatment in the
area of the mouth and lips.
Can I combine treatments?
Many clients combine Dermal Fillers with Botulinum for an
overall younger looking skin.
Can I wear make up straight away?
We can apply a special make up after your treatment if you
wish but we recommend that you leave putting on your own
make up for at least four hours.
Will my facial expressions look natural after treatment?
Yes, the aim is to restore your vitality in a natural and
subtle way. Botulinum and Dermal Fillers treatments will
not dramatically
alter your facial appearance or make you look unnaturally
expressionless.
How do I arrange to have facial rejuvenation?
The first step is to book a free consultation with Mrs Aspey.
During this appointment, which takes approximately 30 minutes,
there will be ample opportunity to ask any questions you may
have about the procedures. No pressure will be put on you to
go through with the treatment and you will not be asked to
make a decision or commit to any further appointments at that
time. Of course, if, following this consultation, you come
to appreciate the benefits of facial rejuvenation then we will
be delighted to arrange any appointments at a mutually convenient
time.
